Cutvey vs. Frame.io: what happens after "Approved"?

Frame.io is the deepest review tool in the business, with Camera to Cloud and panels inside your editor that Cutvey does not have. For a post house, keep it. For a production company, approval is the moment the invoice and the delivery are meant to happen, and that is the part Cutvey connects.

Monthly billing, before tax, checked November 2026. Frame.io marks annual billing "Save 13%".

Five people on Frame.io Pro is $75 a month for review alone. Cutvey Pro is $99 a month for 5 people, 500 GB and every stage of the job. Cutvey has far less storage for the money, so a shop holding a lot of footage in review should do that sum first.

Where Frame.io is strong

Camera to Cloud, the panels inside Premiere and other editors, and storage built for moving terabytes through a facility. It has mounted storage for working from the cloud, and years of polish on the player. If your bottleneck is getting camera originals to an editor before lunch, Frame.io has earned its price. No argument.

The gap: review is a business event

In Frame.io, "Approved" is a status. A person still has to notice it, send the final invoice from another tool, chase the payment in a third and release the files from a fourth. Each hand-off is a delay, and the person relaying is usually the owner.

In Cutvey, review sits inside the project that came from the signed proposal. Clients comment on the exact frame and draw on it. Versions compare side by side, by wipe, or by showing what changed. Rounds count against the contract and the extra round's invoice is drafted for you. Your team can sign off before a client sees a cut, and approval raises the final invoice. Once it is paid, the delivery opens, and the same file goes out with no second upload.

The last mile of a job

Picture a Friday. The client approves the final cut at 3 PM on Frame.io. Good news, and now the work starts: open your invoicing tool, find the job, raise the balance, send it, wait. Monday, the payment lands. Open Dropbox or Frame.io again, make the delivery link, write the email, send the 4K master and the social cut-downs. Three tools and two reminders, for one decision the client already made.

On Cutvey the client's approval raises the final invoice. If you set the cut to join the delivery on approval, it is already on the delivery page, locked. Their payment opens it, and they get the email. You find out from the bell. If a client is good for it and needs the file tonight, you press Release with a reason, and the invoice stays open.

Frame.io's strength is the other end of the job: the first frames off the camera, and the editor's timeline. Cutvey's is the last mile, where the money is. Which of those is costing you more is the question to ask.

When to choose Frame.io

  • You are a post house or an in-house post team, and proposals and invoices live elsewhere.
  • You need Camera to Cloud on set.
  • Editors want notes inside the timeline, live.
  • You keep several terabytes in review at a time.

Where Cutvey falls short

There is no Camera to Cloud and no panel inside an editor today. Notes export as a file you import. Storage has no overage: uploads stop at your plan's cap, and blocks of 200 GB or 1 TB are extra. The HDR copy is 1080p by default. Frame.io has years of facility-scale work behind it.

Using both

You can, while you move over. Some studios will keep Frame.io for a specific facility job and run everything else in Cutvey. If a cut reviewed in Frame.io is the final, upload that one file to Cutvey's delivery page.

Frequently asked

Does review work for more than video?

Yes. Video, images, audio and PDFs share one review room.

Do clients need a login?

No. One link on any device. A review link can carry a 4-digit password, a last day, and downloads or notes switched off.

Can a client approve from their phone?

Yes. They type their name on the review link, or sign on a personal sign-off link, and the record stays with that version.
