What Notion is very good at
Writing, first of all. Pages nest inside pages, databases sit inside documents, and a template from someone else can become your system in an afternoon. Teams keep wikis, meeting notes and checklists there, and on the Business plan its AI can work across the whole workspace. Forms and simple websites come built in. Many filmmakers love it, and they have reason to.
The parts you would wire up yourself
A Notion production system usually has a Projects database, a Contacts database, a Crew database and a Shoot Days database, related to each other. It works well for keeping track. The trouble starts where the job has to reach someone outside the company, or move money.
- A proposal the client signs and pays a deposit on.
- A call sheet sent to each crew member, where you can see who opened it and who confirmed.
- A cut the client watches, with notes pinned to the frame and a count of revision rounds.
- An invoice with reminders, paid by card into your own Stripe account.
- Final files that wait until the balance is paid.
Each of those means another product beside Notion, or a lot of formulas and copying. Someone in the company becomes the person who maintains the system, and it is usually the owner.
What Cutvey has instead
Cutvey makes those connections for you. The signed proposal opens the project with the deposit invoice raised. The crew you book fill the call sheet, and each person confirms with one tap. Notes land on the frame, rounds count against the contract, and approval raises the final invoice. The delivery page opens once that invoice is paid, unless you release it early with a reason.
There are documents too. Each project's Plan has a brief and room for documents, alongside the shot list, storyboard, locations, cast and gear, and a script imports from Final Draft, Fountain or a PDF for breakdown. What Cutvey does not have is a company wiki. Your handbook, your pitch library and your half-written treatments have no natural home in it.

Using both
This pairing is common, and it works. Keep Notion for what the company thinks and writes: the handbook, the pitch library, research, the first draft of a treatment. Run each paid job in Cutvey from the inquiry to the final payment. When a treatment is ready for the client, put its pictures on a Cutvey moodboard or into the proposal, where the client's answer will be kept.
When to choose Notion alone
- You are one person, the work is simple, and the free plan covers it.
- Writing and knowledge are most of what you need software for.
- You enjoy building systems, and you have time to keep one working.
- Proposals, payments and review already happen in tools you like.
Where Cutvey falls short
There is no wiki and no free plan for a studio. Its records have a shape you work within, which a Notion builder may find tight. Its assistant answers about your work in Cutvey and does not search your other tools.
Frequently asked
Can Notion run a video production company?
It can keep track of one, if someone builds the databases and keeps them up to date. It does not send proposals for signature, take payments, send call sheets or collect notes on a cut by itself.
Can I move my Notion databases into Cutvey?
Export them to CSV. Clients, leads, active projects and open invoices each have an import, and you match the columns before anything saves.
