Cutvey vs. Studio Ninja for video businesses

Studio Ninja is a friendly, low-cost CRM for photographers, with free data migration and one-on-one training that Cutvey does not offer. It stops short of the production a video job needs: crew, call sheets, timecoded review and delivery held for payment. If you shoot stills, it is a sensible home.

Cutvey plans: Solo $49, Pro $99 and Studio $199 a month, or $29, $59 and $119 a month billed yearly. Every plan has every stage of the job. Plans differ by people, projects, storage and limits.

Studio Ninja costs less at every level. Master, with unlimited users, is less than half of Cutvey Pro. That is a fair price for what it covers, and you should only pay more if you use what it leaves out.

Where Studio Ninja is strong

It is easy to learn and tuned to photography: inquiries, quotes, contracts, questionnaires, a client portal, payment schedules and reminders. It connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, QuickBooks and Stripe, and to Pic-Time and ShootProof for galleries. It offers free data migration, free one-on-one training and 24-hour in-app chat. Plenty of photographers never need anything else.

The gap for video

Video jobs have a production in the middle. There is crew to book at day rates, a call sheet to send, cuts to review with notes on the frame, versions to compare, rounds to count and big files to deliver once the balance is in. Studio Ninja was not built for those, because a photographer rarely needs them.

So a videographer on it adds a review app and a spreadsheet for call sheets, and a gallery service on top. That is three more logins for one wedding film.

Where a videographer feels it

The first sign is usually a second shooter. On a photo job the crew is you and an assistant. On a wedding film with two cameras and an audio feed, somebody needs a call time, a shot list, a rate and a way to invoice you. Studio Ninja has a contact for them and no more. So you text the details, and you keep a note of what you owe them.

The second sign is the first round of notes. A couple watching a 7-minute highlight film has opinions about the 4:12 mark. In email, that arrives as "the bit near the end where grandma is dancing". On a Cutvey review link, they press on the frame and type, and you see it pinned to the moment.

The third is the last invoice. A photographer can hold a gallery until the balance clears by simply not sending the link. With three big files on a delivery page, Cutvey does that for you, shows you who downloaded what, and tells the client when it opens. If none of these three has happened to you yet, stay where you are. When the second one happens twice in a month, the trial costs you nothing but one job's attention, and your old system keeps running while you try it.

When to choose Studio Ninja

  • You are a photographer, and your video is occasional or none.
  • You want free migration and one-on-one training included.
  • You already love Pic-Time or ShootProof and want a CRM beside it.
  • The lowest monthly bill matters most.

Where Cutvey falls short

It costs more. There is no free migration and no training call: moving over is self-serve, and support does not cover data entry. Help articles and email are how you get answers. And it is new, with no long record to read.

The hybrid question

Cutvey's galleries handle photo proofing, downloads and a store alongside video review, under one login. For a hybrid studio that is usually the deciding thing. Start the trial on your next wedding and keep Studio Ninja running until the job is done. Read for photographers.

Frequently asked

Can I import from Studio Ninja?

Clients and leads move by CSV, up to 2,000 rows a file. There is no Studio Ninja preset, so you match the columns once. Import a CSV.

Is Cutvey for photographers at all?

Yes. There are photo starters, photo project types, photo contract clauses and a print release. We lead with video because that is what we shoot.
