Video proposal software

Proposal software turns a quote into a page the client can read, sign and pay. Most tools stop at the signature, and that is where a video job begins. Better Proposals and Proposify make the best documents. In Cutvey the signed proposal also becomes the contract, the deposit invoice and the project.

What a video proposal has to do

A video quote decides how the job will go before anyone picks up a camera. A good one does six things.

  1. It shows you understood the brief. Say it back in their words, before any price.
  2. It sets the scope. Shoot days, crew, deliverables, length, formats and rounds of revision.
  3. It offers a choice. Two or three packages let a client decide how much, and they stop deciding whether.
  4. It names what is not included. Travel, music, a third round, extra cut-downs.
  5. It states the usage. Where the film runs and for how long.
  6. It makes yes easy. Sign and pay from the same link, on a phone, without an account.

Our proposal guide covers the order that sells, and there is a free proposal template to start from.

A worked example

Say a brand film for a regional company, with these three packages. These are sample numbers.

CoreStandardFull
Shoot days122
Crew234
FinalsOne 2-minute filmFilm and 3 cut-downsFilm, 6 cut-downs, captions
Rounds223
Price$6,500$9,800$14,000
Deposit on signing$3,250$4,900$7,000

Most of the writing here is the three rows that differ. Each package has its own lines, and the client picks one. In Cutvey, picking one updates the total and the deposit, and signing raises that deposit invoice for the package they chose. A client who wants captions on Standard adds them as an optional add-on, and the price moves in front of them.

What happens after the signature

This is the real difference between these tools.

StepA proposal toolCutvey
ContractPart of the document, or sent separatelyThe signed proposal is the agreement. A separate contract is one press if you want one

If another system already runs your jobs, a proposal tool is enough, and a better document. If you are the system, the second column is worth more than a nicer cover page.

What Cutvey's proposals do

  • Three steps: Set up, Build, Send. Starters for brand films, corporate, commercials, weddings, music videos, documentaries, real estate, aerial, social retainers and photography.
  • Up to 4 packages, each with its own lines, plus optional add-ons, discount codes and rate cards.
  • E-signature, typed or drawn, with several signers in order and readers at the client, and an audit trail of what was logged.
  • Client options, all off until you turn them on: a question box, a decline link, a booking or questionnaire before signing, 2 or 3 payment plans, and an email code before signing.
  • Opens and time on each section.
  • A sent proposal changes only when you press Publish changes, and each version is kept.
  • A signature locks what it covers, for you and the client.
  • 41 languages for the client's copy.

When a proposal tool is the better pick

Choose Better Proposals, Proposify or Qwilr if you have a sales team, a separate CRM, and a production side that runs elsewhere. Those tools have deeper template libraries and CRM connections than we do, and a salesperson who lives in them all day will feel it. Cutvey and Better Proposals.

Where Cutvey falls short

Solo allows 10 proposals a month and Pro allows 50. A proposal password is on Pro and up. Our template library is younger than the specialists'. And Cutvey gives you the pen, not the contract: an e-signature with an audit trail, and whether a document binds anyone depends on its words and on the law where you work. Read the contract template notes, and have a lawyer look at your terms.

Frequently asked

Do proposals and contracts need to be separate?

No. A proposal with scope, price, terms and a signature can be the agreement. Some clients ask for a separate contract, and Cutvey makes one with one press.

How fast should a proposal go out?

Within a day of the call. Saved packages make that possible.

Can the client pay when they sign?

Yes. With Stripe connected, the deposit or first milestone invoice is raised on signing, and they can pay it straight away.

Send the proposal that opens the job.

Sign, pay the deposit, and the project is ready. 14 days free, no card needed.
