Alternatives

Frame.io alternatives for client review

If you want review and nothing else, Vimeo and Wipster are the usual alternatives to Frame.io, and both cost less. Filestage suits teams approving many kinds of content, and Krock.io suits small teams on a budget. If you want the approval to raise the invoice and open the delivery, that is Cutvey. For Camera to Cloud, stay on Frame.io.

What to look for in a review tool

Most comparison lists stop at "timecoded comments", and every tool here has them. These are the things that actually separate them on a job.

QuestionWhy it matters
Can the client review with no account?Every extra step costs you a day of notes
Does a note know the exact frame?"Near the end" costs an editor ten minutes
Is timecode from the file's own start?Otherwise the note and the timeline disagree
Are 29.97 and 59.94 drop-frame?Otherwise the numbers drift over a long cut
Can you compare two versions?"What changed?" is the first client question
Can your team sign off first? So a rough cut does not reach the client by accident
Can notes go back into the edit?Typing them in is how notes get lost
What happens on approval?Usually nothing. That is the gap
Does it count revision rounds?Otherwise round four is free

Vimeo

Vimeo is a video host first, with review features on top. If you already pay for it to host your reel and client films, using it for review is sensible. It is not built around approvals or rounds. Pricing is per seat, with Standard at $25 and Advanced at $75 a seat a month.

Wipster

A dedicated review tool, lighter than Frame.io, aimed at marketing and brand teams who approve a lot of content. Annual billing saves 20%.

Filestage

Built for approving many kinds of content, such as documents, designs and video, across several stakeholders in order. Strong if your reviewers are legal, compliance and brand. It costs a lot more if you only need a client to watch a cut.

Krock.io

A review tool with a storyboard creator and a low per-user price. Its site lists unlimited reviewers on every plan, and integrations with DaVinci Resolve, Adobe apps and Final Cut Pro.

Cutvey

Review inside the job. Clients open a link with no account and leave notes on the frame, draw on it, and compare versions side by side, by wipe, or by showing what changed. Playback goes up to 4K, and PQ or HLG sources also get an HDR copy, 1080p by default. Timecode starts from the file's own start, with drop-frame at 29.97 and 59.94.

Then the job carries on. Rounds count against the contract, and the extra round's invoice is drafted for you to send. Your team can sign off before a client sees a cut. Approval raises the final invoice. Notes export for DaVinci Resolve, Avid and Final Cut Pro, or as Premiere Pro markers. The delivery page opens once the cut is approved and the balance is paid.

The review room: the cut, and notes pinned to timecodes from the client and the team

What it lacks: Camera to Cloud, and a panel inside your editor. Storage has a cap on every plan, and it costs more than a review-only tool if review is all you want. Cutvey and Frame.io, side by side.

Stay on Frame.io if

  • Footage has to reach an editor from set the same day.
  • Your editors live in its panels.
  • You keep several terabytes in review, and the per-member price is fine.
  • The sales and money side of the job is not your problem.

A note on cost

Per-member pricing looks small and grows with every editor. Five people on Frame.io Pro is $75 a month, and on Wipster Team billed monthly it is $125 a month. Cutvey Pro is $99 a month for 5 people with everything else in the job. A review tool is still the cheaper bill if all you need is review. Add up your real stack with the calculator.

Getting clients to review faster

No tool fixes a vague request for feedback. Three habits do more than any feature: give one deadline, ask for one consolidated set of notes, and tell them what kind of feedback you want at this stage. Our guide on getting clients to approve faster has the wording, and how many revision rounds to include covers the contract side.

Frequently asked

What is the cheapest Frame.io alternative?

For one person, Krock.io's free plan and Wipster Light are the lowest we found, checked November 2026. Frame.io's own free plan may also be enough for two people on a small job.

Is there a free video review tool?

Frame.io and Krock.io both have free plans with 2 GB. Google Drive comments work for a short film, without timecode or versions.

Can I keep my Frame.io links?

Yes. Old links keep working in Frame.io. Move new jobs over when you are ready.
