Cutvey vs. Vidlead Studio

Vidlead Studio and Cutvey are the two products closest to "run your whole video business in one place", and they split on what "whole" means. Vidlead leans toward marketing, with a website builder, funnels, email and text. Cutvey leans toward production, with crew, call sheets, timecoded review and delivery held for payment.

Where Vidlead is strong

Getting found. Its page lists a website and funnel builder with drag-and-drop templates, email and text marketing, DMs in the CRM, surveys and automations. If your problem is that the phone does not ring, that is the part of the business it is aimed at, and Cutvey has no website builder.

Its help goes further than software, too: one-on-one onboarding, a 14-day bootcamp and monthly coaching calls. Its page shows 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Unlimited media storage is a real difference for a studio that keeps a lot online.

Where the pages differ

Vidlead's page describes project pipelines, video hosting with a built-in review tool, invoices, contracts and estimates. It does not mention crew, call sheets, shot lists or delivery held for payment. We read its public page, not the product, so ask them if any of those matter to you.

Cutvey is built around the shoot. You book crew with day rates and holds, and clashes are flagged before they happen. The deal memo is previewed before it goes. The call sheet fills from those bookings, each person confirms with one tap, and only the people whose sheet changed get a new copy. Notes land on a timecode, rounds count against the contract, and the delivery opens once the cut is approved and the balance is paid.

Who each one is really for

Think of the week. If your week is mostly finding work, posting, running a funnel and following up with strangers, the tools you touch most are the website, the forms and the email sender. That is where Vidlead has put its effort, and Cutvey would leave you buying a website and an email tool on the side.

If your week is mostly doing the work, the tools you touch are the crew list, the schedule, the call sheet, the cut under review and the invoice. A two-day commercial with six people on it produces six deal memos, a call sheet with a late change, timecards, crew invoices, a W-9 you do not have yet and a client with two rounds of notes. None of those is marketing, and all of them can go wrong at 11 PM.

Plenty of companies are both at different times of year. The honest test is your last three jobs. Count how many people you paid. If the answer is usually zero, Vidlead's shape fits. If it is usually three or more, Cutvey's does.

When to choose Vidlead

  • You need a website and funnels as well, and want them from the same company.
  • Lead generation is the problem, more than running the job.
  • You want coaching and a bootcamp with your software.
  • You work alone or with a small team and rarely book crew.
  • You want one plan with unlimited media storage.

Where Cutvey falls short

There is no website builder and no email marketing. Storage has a cap on every plan, and uploads stop there until you add a block. There is no coaching, and support does not cover training or data entry. There is no review history to read yet. You can keep your site where it is and put a Cutvey lead form on it.

Frequently asked

Can I use my own website with Cutvey?

Yes. A lead form or chat box goes on any site, and leads land on your board.

Which is better for a wedding filmmaker?

If you work alone and need a website, look hard at Vidlead. If you hire second shooters and want the film's review and delivery tied to the final payment, Cutvey fits better. For wedding filmmakers.
