Import transactions and set rules
If your bank is not connected, a statement file works just as well. Import it, give each line a category, and set rules so next month sorts itself.
Import a statement
- Go to Books > Transactions and press Import transactions.
- Press Choose a file (CSV, OFX or QFX) and pick the file your bank gave you.
- If it is a CSV, match the date, description and amount columns. Cutvey recognizes the layouts of a few banks, like Apple Card, Discover, Capital One and Wells Fargo, on its own.
- Check the duplicates. Lines you already have are marked Exact duplicate or Possible duplicate, and Skip duplicates leaves them out.
- Finish the import.
New lines wait in Unreviewed until you look at them.
Sort each line
Give each transaction a category, and mark anything personal. If one payment covers several things, press Split, divide it into parts that add up to the total, and give each part its own category. Each part can be business or personal.
To keep a receipt with a line, use Attach receipt, or Scan receipt to read the merchant, date, total and tax from a photo. Scanning fills in the fields for you to check. It never saves or categorizes by itself.
Set rules
Press Manage rules, then Add rule. A rule looks at the description and matches when it contains, is exactly or starts with the words you give. Then it can:
- set the category
- Rename to a cleaner name
- apply to Only account if you choose one
- Also apply to past transactions when you tick it
The next import, and every connected bank line, follows your rules.
Export your receipts
Export receipts on the Transactions page, and the Receipts report in Book Reports, gather your receipts for your accountant.
