The brief, script and documents
A project's Plan section is pre-production: the brief, the script and documents, the shot list and storyboard, the moodboard, locations, cast and the gear list. This article covers the first two.
The brief
Open the project, go to Plan, and fill in what you know:
| Field | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Project goals | What the video is meant to achieve |
| Target audience | Who it is for |
| Key messages | The two or three things that must land |
| Tone / mood | Cinematic, warm, energetic |
| References | Links or descriptions of inspiration |
| Do's and Don'ts | Must-haves, and what to avoid |
Save it when you are done. If someone else saved while you were typing, Cutvey shows both and lets you choose Show their version or Save mine anyway, so nobody's work is overwritten without a choice.
To save typing:
- Start from the questionnaire fills empty fields from the client's questionnaire answers.
- Start from a template fills empty fields from a brief you saved. Save as a template keeps this one, optionally for one project type.
Only empty fields are ever filled.
Script and documents
Script and documents keeps three kinds of document: Script, Storyboard and Treatment. Each has versions. Press Add a version, give it a label like "Draft 2", a link or a file, and a note on what changed. Your team can comment on each version.
To break a script into scenes, a stripboard and a day out of days, import it under the script tools: see Script breakdown, stripboard and day out of days.
What crew can read
In the project's Settings you choose what booked crew can read. Shared, they read the brief's fields that are listed on the page, the shot list and the locations. Not shared, they read none of it. Clients never see the Plan section.
Download
Download PDF gives a printable copy of each Plan list.
