Script breakdown, stripboard, day out of days
On this page
For scripted work, Cutvey can read your script, break it into scenes and help you plan the shoot. Everything lives in the project under Plan > Breakdown.
Import the script
- Open the project and go to Plan > Breakdown.
- Press Import script.
- Choose a Final Draft file (.fdx, up to 6 MB), a Fountain file (up to 3 MB) or a PDF (up to 20 MB).
Final Draft files come in most completely, including any breakdown tags you already made there in categories Cutvey also uses. A PDF must not be password protected. A script can have up to 1,500 scenes.
To bring in a new draft later, press Import a new draft and tick Replace the scenes (elements and their links stay). The old scenes and your day breaks go, and your elements and their links stay.
Tag elements
In Scenes, tag what each scene needs in eleven categories: cast, extras, props, wardrobe, vehicles, locations, special effects, visual effects, makeup and hair, animals and set dressing. Elements lists everything you tagged across the script.
When you import a script, a cast member or location links to the project's own record when the names match, capital letters and spacing aside. You can also link an element yourself on Elements, under Stands for.
Plan the days on the stripboard
Stripboard shows each scene as a strip, colored by interior or exterior and day or night. Drag strips into order and press Add day break to end a shoot day.
Day out of days
Day out of days shows each cast member across your shoot days with the usual codes: SW (start work), W (work), WF (work finish), SWF (start, work and finish on one day) and H (hold).
Send a day to the call sheet
Once a shoot day has a date, press Send day to schedule to add its scenes to the shoot schedule, and Put locations on the call sheet for its locations.
