Files: store, share and embed

On this page

Files is your studio's file home. Store anything, share a file or a folder with a link, embed a video on a website, and collect files from clients and crew.

Upload

In Files, press Upload files or Upload folder, or New folder to organize first. Each project also has its own Files section. Everything you keep counts toward your plan's storage.

Share

Select a file and press Share. Choose who can open it:

  • Only your team, inside Cutvey.
  • Specific people: only the emails you list. They verify with a one-time code.
  • Anyone with the link: no sign-in needed.

You can also allow or stop downloads, set a day the link stops working, add a password, or press Reset link so the old link stops working.

Embed a video

A video shared with Anyone with the link can go on any website. Press Embed and pick a style:

  • Player: a watchable video with controls that scales to fit the page.
  • Background loop: a silent hero loop with no controls.

Copy the code and paste it into your site. Or paste the link itself into WordPress, Squarespace or Notion and it becomes the player. A password turns embedding off.

Get files from clients and crew

On a project, Copy upload link gives a client a link to send you files. Copy field ingest link gives your crew one to send footage from the field. Everything sent in is filed on the project by who uploaded it.

The trash

Deleting a file moves it to the Trash. It stays there for 30 days and can be restored, then it is deleted for good. Files in the trash still count toward your storage, and their share links do not work. Empty the trash deletes everything in it now.

A review cut that was approved or signed off, or that a final file was made from, is kept, so the record of what the client agreed to cannot be thrown away by accident.

What Files is not

Files is a working space, not a backup or an archive. Keep your own copy of your masters. Final delivery to a client has its own page with payment rules: see Deliver final files.
