Versions and compare

A cut and all its later versions live together in a stack. Your client follows one link and always lands on the newest version, and you can compare any two whenever you need to.

Add a new version

  1. Open the project and go to Review.
  2. On the cut, press New version and upload the file.
  3. It becomes the next version of the same title, for example Brand film v3.

A stack is every cut that shares a title. Titles match without caring about capital letters or spaces at the start or end, so "Brand Film" and "brand film " are the same stack. Use Rename under the cut's More menu to change a cut's name; every version takes the new name.

Compare two versions

In the review room, choose Compare against: and pick another version. Compare works for video and still images. Then choose how to look:

  • Side by side shows both at once.
  • Wipe between the two lets you drag a line across the frame.
  • Show what changed highlights the difference.

Sound from picks which version you hear while comparing.

Notes that carry forward

Open notes from earlier versions carry forward to the new one as a checklist for your team only. Tick Resolved in this version as you work through them, so nothing the client asked for gets lost between versions.

Timecode that matches your edit

Cutvey reads the start timecode saved in your file, so notes line up with your timeline. At 29.97 and 59.94 frames per second it shows drop-frame timecode, with a semicolon, the same way your editing software does.

High dynamic range

If your source is HDR (PQ or HLG), Cutvey also makes an HDR copy. It plays on screens and browsers that support HDR, and everyone else sees the standard version. While you compare two versions, you see the standard version. The HDR copy counts toward your storage, and if it cannot be made the cut still plays as usual. For a cut uploaded before this was available, press Rebuild streaming versions under the cut's More menu.
