Recurring retainers

A retainer is for a client you bill on a rhythm, like monthly social content. Cutvey raises and sends the invoice for each period, so you do not have to remember.

Create a retainer

  1. Go to Books > Invoices and open Recurring retainers.
  2. Press New retainer.
  3. Fill in the client, the Client email, a Description and the Amount.
  4. Choose the Cadence: Monthly or Quarterly.
  5. Set Bill on day, a day from 1 to 28, and the First bill date.
  6. If it belongs to a job, use Link to project (optional).
  7. Press Create retainer.

What happens each period

On the bill date, Cutvey raises the invoice and emails it to the client, like any invoice you send. Each period is billed once, never twice. Reminders follow your usual settings if it goes unpaid.

If there is no email address to send to, the invoice waits as a draft and you are told to add one. The Recurring retainers list shows what is due, the next bill date and the last invoice for each retainer. If something is due now, you can press Run billing to raise it right away.

Change or stop a retainer

Open it and press Edit retainer. Changes apply to invoices raised from now on; invoices already sent keep their amounts.

Deleting a retainer stops it billing. The invoices it already raised are kept.
