You decide how much your client pays when they sign, and how the rest is billed. The choice lives in the proposal's settings sheet, under How much on signing.

Before you start

Taking payment needs Take payment on signing on, and a connected Stripe account if you want clients to pay online. See Connect Stripe. Your default upfront percentage is set in the setup wizard and can be changed later.

A deposit

Choose Deposit and enter the percentage. When the client signs, Cutvey raises a deposit invoice for that share, tax included. The client can pay it right from the signed page.

A milestone schedule

Choose Milestone schedule and press Add a milestone for each payment. The milestones should add up to 100 percent.

  • The first milestone is billed when the client signs.
  • The rest are yours to send when the work reaches them. Nothing is sent on its own.

If you turn on autopay, a client can choose to pay the later milestones automatically. See Autopay for retainers and payment schedules.

Payment plans

To give the client a choice, turn on Payment plans in Client options and use Offer a choice of payment plans. You can offer up to three named plans over the same total, for example "Pay in full" and "Three payments". The client picks one before signing, under How you would like to pay, and the plan they chose is the schedule their signature bills.

No payment on signing

Turn Take payment on signing off and signing still creates the project and the contract, with no invoice. You can bill whenever you are ready from the project's Money page.
